Solution 1
Put your data into one of the Standard templates and then import it into Tally. The Standard templates are available in "c:\udi-Magic" folder (or the installation folder) or you can download from here.
Solution 2
To import data directly from your XLS file into Tally, you must map your XLS to one of the Standard templates. The following resources have been made available for mapping / creating custom templates :
