In many cases, the StockItem Names are same but their Part Numbers are different. How to create two StockItems with the same Name in Tally Software?
Answer
In Tally software, you MUST specify a unique name for each StockItem. You CANNOT create two Stockitems with the same name. However, you can use a workaround wherein you specify the Item Part Number along with the Item Name in the StockItem-Name.
Try out the creating the following STOCKITEMs using the option "Gateway of Tally >> Inventory Info >> StockItems >> Create".

Remarks
The purpose of the above illustration was to show you that you CANNOT have two STOCKITEMs with same NAME in Tally Software.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- In Tally software, the StockItem-Name must be unique.
- In addition, the StockItem-PartNo must also be unique.
- The StockItem-name and StockItem-PartNumber CANNOT be the same.
- Just like StockItems, you must use unique names and aliases for other masters viz Ledgers, Cost Centres, Cost Categories, Godown etc.
