Query
In many cases, the Party Names are same but their codes are different. How to create two Party Ledgers with the same Name in Tally Software?
Answer
In Tally software, you MUST specify a unique name for each Party Ledger. You CANNOT have two parties (i.e. party ledgers) with the same ledger-name. However, you can use a workaround wherein you specify the Party Code along with the Party Name in the Ledger-Name.
Try out the creating the following LEDGERs using the option "Gateway of Tally >> Accounts Info >> Ledgers >> Create".
WRONG data
Party [Ledger Name in Tally] | Party Code [Ledger Alias in Tally] | Remarks |
Ramesh Chawla | A100 | This will NOT work. You will NOT be able to create the 2nd ledger in Tally as the name already exists. |
Ramesh Chawla | A101 |
CORRECT data
Party [Ledger Name in Tally] | Party Code [Ledger Alias in Tally] | Remarks |
Ramesh Chawla (A100) | A100 | Herein, we have specified the Party Name and Code in the Ledger-Name column/field. Hence, it becomes unique and both the ledgers are created in Tally. |
Ramesh Chawla (A101) | A101 |
Remarks
The purpose of the above illustration was to show you that you CANNOT have two LEDGERs with same NAME in Tally Software.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- In Tally software, the Ledger-Name must be unique.
- In addition, the Ledger-alias must also be unique.
- The Ledger-name and Ledger-alias CANNOT be the same.
- Just like Ledgers, you must use unique names and aliases for other masters viz StockItems, Cost Centres, Cost Categories, Godown etc.
